The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. [Their] duties are wide-ranging, but [their] goal is clear: keeping America safe. (source: www.dhs.gov)

I just recieved an email from USCIS regarding the status on my tentative job offer for the ISO, they have decided to rescind the job offer due to budgetary restrictions. I'm confused and disappointed as things were looking better for USCIS. I guess I will keep moving forward.

Good luck to everyone else.

I'm so sorry to read this since I know you've been waiting since the very beginning of all this. I haven't heard anything yet, but I expect the same news soon. I hope everything else is well at least.

Thanks Athena!

it's confusing because according to the town hall they will start hiring in July. My guess is since we were on hold for over a year they rather just start fresh. Time will tell.

Best of luck!

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I also received a similar email in April that rescinded my tentative offer for an Asylum Officer position. I so understand that confusion and frustration. It doesn't make much financial sense if the agency still plans to hire soon. Regardless, I'm readying my application for when the posting opens again. I hope you do the same!

Most of the openings including the GS 5 ISO opening is internal only.
When will the agency start hiring from the public?

By only doing internal opening the agency is simply moving people around, this will not help in mission effectiveness or help with the backlog.

All federal agencies when announcing mass hirings open internally first and a few days or weeks later they open to the public.

They will be hiring from the public.

It's important to give those in non-officer positions a chance to move to the Officer Corps. This will help adjudications backlogs and give a better view to management for deciding true vacancies.

ISO 2's are 9/11/12.

Some offices put out announcements as 11/12.

I am a gs7 at my current agency and Uscis is bringing me as a gs6 step 2. I applied as a gs6 before the freeze.
I asked for match pay and they said that based on my SF50 they are giving me gs6 step 2
😩😩😩😩😩😩
I am due for my gs9 in 3 weeks.

I really want to work here but I will get $230 less a month. Any advices?

Oh the reason I would say yes is...
This is my dream agency and better hours to spend time with family.

That's wrong of them. They should match your pay and or grade considering the circumstances.

They refuse and said something about the 2 step rule. I don’t know what that is.

When they first offered job before the freeze, what grade and step did they offer you?

I was a gs6 back then so I applied and interviewed GS6. I am not asking for a grade increase but at least a few steps to match my pay. But nooooooo.

What is the next step in the hiring process for Uscis once the adjudicator has made a favorable decision?

Assuming everything else has been completed, you would hopefully hear about an official offer and EOD next.
