Does anyone have experience with intergovernmental personnel act details? I’m currently working for Agency A and I’m looking to move to another state (where my SO has accepted a position) ASAP. I had an informational interview with a manager at Agency B to just chat about the hiring process but I ended up being offered a detail position in the city I’m looking to move to. The manager at Agency B said he would get the paperwork together for me to present to my management at Agency A.

Upon further research of IPA’s, it appears that only management can bring up IPA opportunities, that Agency B cannot attempt to recruit you, and that you must return to Agency A for the same length of time you were on the detail.

Having detailed all of that, my gut feeling is to decline the detail. I have serious doubts my management would even approve such a thing. But I also have zero intention of returning after the detail and it seems like a quick way to burn a bridge.

Any insight you could provide into my predicament would be greatly appreciated.
