Not sure what my options are here.

Boss retired months ago.

I was detailed with pay into his job while he was still around (temp promotion of one grade)

Detail ran out, and I'm still filling both roles.

Other positions are getting filled, but not the one I'm juggling with my current job.

What can I do, other than continue to do both jobs? I keep getting updates from my boss, but they do not match what Civilian Personnel is telling me, which is basically....nothing has been done.

May piss your boss off but you can always use your chain of command.

In a perfect wold, yes. Unfortunately, his boss promoted him into his current position, and is oblivious to this whole situation. I figure I can either wait it out, or go outside to get some sort of help.

Are they planning some re organization?

Are you in a detail assignment to a higher grade? Are you told to thus job without a promotion?

No re org. Just basically filling a Director and a Deputy role at the same time. I was detailed with pay, but that ran out after 120 days. Basically, my signature is on documents saying I am in the higher grade, but I’m not being paid for what I am doing. I was also recently told my boss hopes to get the position advertised sometime this fall.

Just curious, will you be applying for the position?

If I’m still around when it finally posts in a few months. I might as well get paid the $1k+/month I’m not currently getting paid for doing both jobs.

This reminds me of the guy I worked with who filled a similar position for over a year while other positions were getting filled.

They ended up hiring someone from the outside and burned him. I liked him but others thought he was arrogant and difficult to work with. He got the last laugh though. He left and took several good people with him.

Also, I hear the "chain of command" comments. Unfortunately, the chain of command has more than likely checked off on this direction. If I've not learned anything in the last 10 years about 15s/SESs is while they may seem aloof, best believe they know what is happening and understand decisions being made.

Flip side is they may have an immediate need in the areas they are hiring but love the work you are doing. HR can only hire "x" many people at one time. I've seen this as well. Guy received his promotion recently was "acting" for at least two years.

I think I'd ask to extend the detail for another 120 days.

If you're worried your boss is lying about the status when compared to what personnel is saying, I think that indicates other problems.
I'm typically more likely to believe most individuals/offices over personnel.

I guess the 120 day detail was a one time thing, and cannot happen again.

I have seen them extended multiple times in the past for critical roles.
Sometimes supervisors don't understand the possibilities that personnel has available.

Boss was informed I had an offer coming from a position I applied for. I don’t think he even cares.
