DHS
The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. [Their] duties are wide-ranging, but [their] goal is clear: keeping America safe. (source: www.dhs.gov)

In the meantime, now contractors'jobs are on the line, not to mention an indefinite hiring freeze.

I spoke with HR a couple of weeks ago and they said that they hoped to begin onboarding new hires after the new fiscal year begins in October. However someone posted on Reddit that at a recent FOD townhall it was mentioned that the hiring freeze would likely continue on for the rest of FY2021. Can someone confirm one or the other? Thanks!

I just had a team meeting this morning and the hiring freeze came up. It will be a WHILE until this agency is bringing on new people. I can all but guarantee you it will not be happening as soon as October.

Does anyone have a guess on how many people USCIS has lost the last year, or what kinda hiring numbers they might be looking for once things open up again?

Looks like we're headed back to Furlough Land again...
Good luck to everyone at the agency. Let's hope the injunction is lifted soon.

Any credible information on when and if the agency will be hiring? More specifically internal hiring of officers?

The last report is that we're on indefinite hold as the agency is not financially stable at this time. The injunction against the new fee changes really put the agency in a bind.
