Is the alledged concern about standing and potentially exposing oneself to the Chinese virus real?

Everyone knows what's what.

Wear your mask.

Go vote.

Is it really a danger to stand in line?

Nobody cares about the chinese virus when they want to go “protest”, riot, loot and burn down their communities but it’s an issue when it comes to voting? BS! Just like ID to vote. You need an ID for just about everything in life but not to vote? BS.

I'll repeat what I wrote in another thread:

Whenever there is a vote on anything here - be it school trustees, tax levies, Presidential elections, etc. - I automatically receive a ballot in the mail a few weeks before it is due. Then, in the comfort of my home, I can research the candidates and/or issues at hand. You put the ballot in a 'secrecy' envelope, then in the mailing envelope which you sign. Why anybody would want to stand in a line for any amount of time to vote is beyond me when this alternative is available. There has never been any question as to the legitimacy of the votes here - my State will vote overwhelmingly for Trump for President.

This is a made up 'problem'.

I vote good.

The rationale behind the "we HAVE to have all mail in ballots" was the supposed threat of catching the virus.

And if we don't it was a threat to democracy.

From the New York Times a picture showing lots and lots of people standing in line for Rep. John Lewis' viewing in the Capital building.

That's OK?

But to stand in line to vote? We can't have that?

Something smells fishy.

This entire “pandemic” has been fishy from the start. It’s an election year and a certain party needed this country to crash to increase their odds of winning.

There is nothing wrong with mailing in a ballot. Could it be made more secure, of course, and I would support that as well.

In the end, people in power only care about power. How to keep it, and how to get more of it.

In the end, mail-in ballots are a nothing burger.

Just a pain, especially when you report to work before the polls open and then mandated to stay late and forced to commute to your county or voting precinct long after the polls have closed

If mail-in voting is good enough for the president and his family it's good enough for me! Let's make it available Nationwide.

Mail in voting was never an issue and has been a mainstay of voting rights as long as I remember. Never have the Republicans nor Democrats have escalated this issue until President Trump was elected. Honestly he appears to be the sole driver of the alleged mail in voting "fraud" allegations. The North Carolina Republican party does not agree with the President. It's as if the President is finding a reason to refuse to cede power as required if he were to lose the election. It stinks of the same reek of third world countries where there is and has been true election fraud by the ruling parties.

Mail-in voting offers Americans the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. I wish we, as a country, had the same excitement for voting locally to nationally that we do for fantasy drafts.

I don't care if you're red or blue, orange or green, but I will fight for your right to vote.

Voter suppression is a larger evil than mail-in voting. Historically, our country was founded by protestors, and protesting/voting is beneficial for the American spirit.

I haven't made up my mind on Mail-in Ballots yet. I suppose I can be swayed.

I've never had a problem with absentee ballots.
Mostly because they're relatively low in number and the voter has to "actively" request one.
For those reasons, verification would be relatively easy (you know the person "wants" to vote, the address is current, low number of ballots to verify, etc).

I have some concerns and skepticism (perhaps unfounded) on large scale Mail-in ballots (EVERY one gets a ballot mailed to them or mail-in ballot ONLY).
My gut tells me to support it (as a postal employee).

Here are some concerns (no particular order):

1) Timeliness: I believe there are still elections undecided (a month later). Locally, it took a week or more to tabulate some results. How would this work on a national level?

2) Invalid votes: The % of invalid votes was alarming. When voting the old-fashioned way (in-person), most people assume that once they pull the lever, it's a done deal. Your vote counts. When you mail-in your ballot, it often gets scrutinized, inspected, challenged, rejected, etc. Without you ever knowing. I was shocked at the number of ballots ruled invalid in relatively small elections.

3) Undue influence: A lot of people don't vote and don't care about politics. I'm a pretty political aware individual. No one else in my family cares. I guarantee I could have "voted" for my entire family at points during my life. Turning my one vote into five if I wanted. What about ballots delivered to a nursing home? Also, is it too hard to imagine that billionaire political heavy hitters (Soros, Steyer, Koch bros., etc.) could find a way to "buy" votes.

4) Sanctity of the mail: Not sure if this has been verified, but weren't there reports of ballots being crammed into mailboxes of vacant apartments, etc.? Exposed and available to anyone walking by. Also, the quality of today's CCA/PSE leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry. It's not like "Joe" the veteran mailman delivering ballots on the route he's carried for 25 years and knows everyone by name. The things I see on a daily basis would blow your mind. Standards, accountability. professionalism and postal knowledge are a thing of the past.

Good morning all, 79 degrees, cloudy and 72% humidity with ocean breezes just before 10 am here.

After retiring from the Army (24yrs) in the Tacoma Washington area I then retired from the USPS (20yrs). Washington is all vote by mail now. Back when things were starting out, our elections office decided they knew a great design for ballot envelopes... putting a tear off tab along the bottom. That was fine until it came time to DPS them. Tabs started coming off right away jamming the machines on the 1st tray. My machine had 1 and 1/3 web GPMC of nothing but ballots for the 2 zip codes I ran. Things got put on hold until maintenance cleaned out the "confetti" and experimented running a test run of them upside down. Now all ballot envelope designs are uniform and machinable.

For returning the ballots, each library and city/county office building had a drive-up locked drop box for those who didn't want to buy a stamp. Now I understand Washington pays return postage for those that want to return ballots that way. >Ballots have to be returned BY ELECTION DAY to be counted.<

Here in American Samoa, we go to the polls the old fashioned way. The big difference is as a native of a U.S. Territory, we caucus for presidential candidates but do not have a vote for President in the fall elections.

Gordon... on the eve of your retirement, congratulations! Keep your eye on your mailbox for the retiree invitation to go back to work for the Xmas holiday season!

How can you say this when there's zero (verifiable) proof? 5 states already vote by mail. Ask yourself, honestly, if your lord and savior was for voting by mail, wouldn't you be too? I really wonder about you avid Trump supporters, I don't think there is ANYTHING he could do that you would be against. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face...

Hence why they worked so hard to get trump elected. It wasn't because he was a strong leader that would stand up to them!

Now they are spreading disinformation about the trumpvirus and from the first few comments on this thread a lot of Americans are still falling for conspiracy theories and fake news. Sad.
