Hi

I was selected for an ereassign position which is going from level 6 carrier to level 4 mailhandler. I’ve called everyone you can think of and no one can tell me how much I’d make. Has anyone done this and can give me some insight. Info on me, Im a T6, been regular since 9/2015 (hired 8/2013 as cca)and currently at step H with the t6 pay bump. It’s crazy no one knows and expects me to make a decision in 5 days without knowing. Then again it’s the post office so I guess it makes sense.

It would be schedule 2. Schedule 2 applies to mail handlers with career appointments on or after February 15th, 2013. Mail handlers in schedule 2 advance steps every 52 weeks.

I'm on the phone so I cant look up charts but YOU WILL NOT LOSE ANY MONEY WHATSOEVER!
Take your current salary and when looking at the NPMHU chart you will be placed in the closest step to your current salary.

Example;
Current Carrier salary = $47,000 you will be placed in the closest step to $47,000 without losing salary!
Enjoy!

Edit: I looked it up, you will be placed in step K (assuming level 4 MH) with a salary of $53,892

Edit 2: step K from schedule 2 just to clarify.

Postalvet had the concept correct, but just the wrong schedule, as schedule 1 does not have an explanation in the link.

You are correct about the example, except the very last sentence of your post.

I've made moves within APWU levels personally, but I do know two city carriers who moved to MH at the plant and this policy applied. They did not lose money, but of course they did lose seniority and ended up at the bottom bidding seniority at the new installation.
I've also known city carriers to go to custodian or clerk when they had medical issues that prevented them from carrying. They did lose slightly because the top step in clerk and custodian was 2-4k less than their top step carrier pay.

I switched from letter carrier to mail handler in 2015. I lost some pay. Went from about 56k a year to 53k a year. I transferred into a level 5 equipment operator position. Some people had mentioned to me that I shouldn’t have lost any pay but I never looked into it.They also had never transferred so I don’t know if they knew what they were talking about. I assumed HRSSC knew what to pay me. Whether that was a smart assumption I don’t know. Find out for sure what you will be making if it’s that important to you. Don’t take anyone’s word for it on here. If you do lose some money you will probably be able to make up the pay difference with OT and differential if you’re willing. Good luck.

That's crazy. Can you check your last form 50 before transfer and first one after transfer? I'm curious what it says in the comment section.

Just checked it. Showed I was at level 6 step G before transfer. Dropped to level 5 step F after. Form 50 stated REASS-Changed to lower level or band.

I think this is what you're looking for. https://about.usps.com/manuals/elm/html/elmc4_011.htm It's from the ELM section 422.125.

The employee’s current salary is moved to the lower grade. If the current salary falls between two steps in the lower grade, the salary is set at the higher of the two steps. The salary may not be set below the minimum or above the maximum of the lower grade.

You can't fix stupid, but you can vote it out.
