I have a somewhat unusual question:

There are 12 vacancies for an announcement, and the agency is accepting both GS9 and GS11 applicants.

Will they concentrate on filling the vacancies from the GS11 pool that has 50 of the most qualified and are referred? Or, will they scatter the vacancies across both grades?

In sum, would an agency want to hire the most qualified, which are the GS 11 applicants, and fill their 12 vacancies with the GS11 candidates, or will they hire from the GS9 pool?

It depends..are vacancies at one location or several? If the former, they may not have enough GS-11 applicants that are worth hiring after interviews, and so will reach into the GS-9 cert.

Sometimes they may split the hires between the certs.

If several locations are from the announcements...then there may be more applicants willing to go to one location versus others, and so that will drive the selection.

Thank you!

This is for one location.

So, they will dip into the GS11 pot first to fill the vacancies before hitting up the GS9?

I was thinking that they may want to go after the most qualified applicants, but I wasn’t sure.

Thank you for your insight.
