I was in a movie theater with some friends back in the mid 70s. Two girls come down the aisle, holding hands and just about making out as they walked.

My friend turns to me, and in a low voice starts singing: "Dog, dog . . . dog eat dog!"

I gotta go with "Hair of the Dog". Nazareth rocked. I saw them with Aerosmith in '77, and was about 15 rows back from the stage, right in front of one of the speaker stacks. My hearing has never recovered.

My local classic rock station plays it once in a while. Yet they play the "tame" (you Son-of-a-gun!) version of "Devil Went Down to Georgia". I don't get it.

Check out George Clinton's "Atomic Dog".

"Puppy Love"
Written by Dolly Parton at age 11 and recorded by her in 1959 at age 13 after a 30-hour bus ride from Knoxville, Tennessee to Goldband Records in Lake Charles, Louisiana, with her grandma.

I thought about including Ol' Red and "Old King" by Neil Young.
Really good dog songs.
I only left them out because they didn't include "Dog" in the title.

p.s. Some of my best friends are named Ol' Red and Old King and they're all sons of b*tches.

No "dog" in the song "Been Caught Stealing" by Jane's Addiction. Lots of wooffing.

John Waters career in three and a half minutes.

Dolly also had "Cracker Jack" and "Gypsy, Joe and Me".

"Once I had a little dog
I called him Cracker Jack
He had a spot around one eye
That looked just like a patch"

"Life was free and simple for Gypsy Joe and me
Now Gypsy was my little dog, I found by the road in a ditch
And so I named him Gypsy, cause that name just seemed to fit"
