I'm thinking of applying to a position with another part of my agency, at a different location in the same state. I'm not sure I would take the job even if offered, but I want to test it out. Will my current supervisor find out that I applied?

Thanks.

It probably varies by agency. I applied for an internal position and, somewhat to my surprise, got an offer. I turned it down. I don't think my supervisor ever knew. On the other hand, they could reach out to the supervisor for a reference. Some agencies might have a policy that you have to notify your supervisor when applying for an internal opening.

Yeah, that sounds right. I have "don't contact supervisor" checked in the application. I have seen jobs within the same sub-agency require supervisor approval, but not this one because it is in a different sub-agency.

You won’t be able to test it out and then come back.

In the application you can say currrnt supervisor not contacted but if your supervisor knows this person quite well then bets are off.
