Title 5 GS worker on a Tues-Fri compressed workweek, at 10 hours/day. Work schedule indicated “holiday” on Thanksgiving day.

With management pre-approval, I went in the office and worked 6 hours on Thanksgiving day due to a backlog of projects coming due in the very near future.

Since I’m already getting 10 hours of holiday pay (at basic rate) for Thanksgiving day which otherwise would have been a normal 10 hour workday, will the 6 hours I actually worked that day be OT at the normal OT rate? Is there a “holiday OT” rate?

Check out the OPM regarding your situation...

Holiday premium pay: For each hour of holiday work, employees receive holiday premium pay. Holiday premium pay is equal to an employee’s rate of basic pay. Employees who are required to work on a holiday during their tour of duty receive their rate of basic pay, plus holiday premium pay, for each hour of holiday work. (See 5 U.S.C. 5546(b), 5 CFR 550.103, and 5 CFR 550.131-132.) See Holidays Work Schedules and Pay Fact Sheet.
