When applying to a job at a federal agency in which there are essay questions on the application, how long is too long? Like if the application says the answers should be a certain number of words, sentences, paragraphs, or pages, is it ok to go over the listed length? Or does the federal agency want the answers to be almost exactly the listed length?

Following directions is a good characteristic for an employee, federal or otherwise. The text boxes are limited to a certain number of characters so typing beyond the certain number of characters wont work. Cannot imagine a hiring manager requesting a 1-2 page essay will read a 3-4 page essay resulting in File 13 of the application.
