As a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and as one of the world's most efficient tax administrators, the IRS role is to help the large majority of compliant taxpayers with the tax law, while ensuring that the minority who are unwilling to comply pay their fair share. (Source: www.irs.gov)

I'm not sure about disparities in pay unless you mean moving ROs to the GL (law enforcement) pay scale. The GL pay scale meets up with the GS pay scale at GS11.

I did read an article that sought to give the 20 year retirement option to ROs, CBP inspectors, and canine enforcement inspectors and it seemed like a pretty compelling argument. The link is below.

Either way. I like my job. Being an RO is exciting.

And IMHO it’s an important job.

Automatic promotion/journey levels at IRS:

Tax attorney: 14
Criminal investigator/special agent: 13
Revenue agent: 12
Revenue officer: 11
Tax compliance officer (TCO): 9

There is a hierarchy in the IRS as there is a hierarchy in the world. Until there is a GS-16, there will be no automatic 12 for ROs and there will be no LEO benefits. To give those benefits to ROs would upset the world.

The bill to offer 6(c) benefits to all federal police officers, revenue officers, revenue agents, and CBP seizure specialists is introduced almost every year, but it never makes it out of committee. The main focus is giving those benefits to federal police officers to bring them in parity with criminal investigators, Border Patrol Agents, CBP Officers, and Bureau of Prisons employees. Journey levels have no bearing on this. But, to be honest, the bill would probably have a better chance of getting to the floor for a vote if it only included criminal law enforcement positions and not IRS employees who do civil enforcement and CBP property seizure employees who have no arrest powers. Those jobs can get dangerous, but many in federal law enforcement do not support giving 6(c) retirement to non-law enforcement personnel.

Revenue officers do not have more power than 1811s. Their summonses don't need court approval because they're for civil cases, and it requires a referral and a long, drawn-out process to get the summons enforced.

I just received an email that I had some paperwork to complete for a position. I didn't know what it was.

Turns out that it was a tentative offer letter for this position.

I won't give the exact location, but it's in Washington State.

Congrats on the job offer! Can I ask how long ago you interviewed and are you external/internal?

I am going in as a 9/2 with hopes of being able to get GS11 before my next step increase. I am not changing locations. I met with my manager today and hopefully I can make GS11 in 9 months. 😆

I'm hoping to come in as a 9/10 to match current salary, but as an external.

Congratulations on your offer!

I just applied myself for Houston,TX on the announcement that is still open.

Are you a Veteran?

Do you know if they're going to continue hiring for Houston or they are pretty much done?

Thx!

I'm a 30%+ Disabled Vet, rated BQ. Applied for GS-7. Got email notice from USAJOBS they shut down hiring and wont be filling any positions at GS7. I applied in Houston also. Not that worried about it, I got an offer from DOL for a claims examiner position.

Sorry to see that you were not hired even though you're a Vet. Congratulations on your offer as a Claims Examiner! What grade is that for?

I qualify as a GS-09 due to prior federal experience. I see that the announcement closes on 07/27/2021 and I heard that they are going to have another round of hiring. Maybe we get hired in the next round, Spazilton... Maybe there is hope.

I was referred for the Individual Taxpayer Advisory Specialist and for the Tax Specialist (TCO) also. Would prefer RO because of the promotional opportunities or TCO because their training is a path to Appeals Officer and Tax Analyst.

Let's see...

Hello, I’m an external that has been through the process up to this point, where I’m anxiously waiting to receive a TO or decline (I applied to three or four locations). I’m wondering how that next step would work, if one location could decline, but another location make a TO, and what that would look like. I’m assuming the TO would come from a specific POD, but would a decline automatically disqualify you from all locations or just one?

Each location selects their people, one may not want you but another may. The offer comes from HR. My experience was, I was sent a TO with 3 days to decide. The TO stated that if I accept the TO from the location offering it to me, it will automatically decline all other locations. I only picked one location so I don't know how accurate that is. I guess it could be tricky if the least desirable location on your list makes you an offer first and you want the job but at the same time you are hoping for a more desirable location. You would have to decide whether to decline the first offer in hopes of a possible future offer from somewhere else. Again tho, I only picked one location so I don't know how it works in practice as I only know what my offer letter stated.

When I got hired in 2016 I received my TO with two locations.

When I accepted the one location it auto-declined the other.

Usually you get 3 days to respond to the TO.

When I applied, I had different POD’s make offers at different times. They would come from different people in HR. Declining a POD does not mean you are declining the whole announcement if you applied to other POD’s. Just make sure you tell HR you are declining the location, not the position. Even after I accepted the offer, I had other POD’s offer me the same job. The HR person will ask if you still want to be considered for other POD’s, atleast that is what happened with me. The three days is also correct as far as accepting or declining an offer.

Hey all, first time poster on this forum, but I've been lurking for a few weeks now.

Quick question, aside from attempting to be patient regarding the status of whether an interview is on the horizon by watching thr USAJobs site, is there any other avenue others have taken to find out their status?

I took my testing a few weeks ago (approx. 3) and I'm looking to gain information on whether I'll be progressing or not.

I haven't received any declined emails yet, so I'm under the "silence is golden" mantra at the moment.
