I joined my agency as a new employee at the beginning of December 2020. I submitted paperwork electing not to enroll in either FEHB or FEGLI due to my spouse's coverage. Unfortunately, I was automatically enrolled and it has been an ongoing process and i do not seem to be getting anywhere. I originally was working through my local HR office, but I was not getting answers on where I was in the process of stopping my deductions and getting reimbursed. I contacted my VISN benefits office and after that it seemed I was getting better communication through my local HR.

However, months later my issue is still not resolved. I also just received a debt letter from DFAS stating I have an overpayment for the first pay period of the year (01/02/21). The reason is "Personnel Transaction". The amount I owe is the exact same amount deducted from my portion paid of FEHB.

I should note that my work schedule was wrong as a part-time employee and it took 4-5 months for the timekeeper to change it. On my most recent LES, I have the following statement:

I am looking for advice on how i should proceed. Paying double for health insurance has been very difficult financially during this time. Am I unreasonable to expect that this issue should be resolved by this time? I also am not understanding why I am getting a letter stating I owe additional money in the amount of my FEHB deduction that has already been taken out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you
