I've gotten an IRS rating email on a job posting that had 40 openings at 16 various locations. The announcement was open for 6 days and I applied for only one. Any idea on what my chances of referral or selection would be for a 6 month register?
Announcement: 21AUS-ITX0372-2210-14 Position: Information Technology Specialist *6 Month Register* Series: 2210 Grade: 14
Rating: Category A Veterans Preference: TP VET

Also, does the rating mean that I was referred or would I receive another separate message stating that? The job had an anticipated start date of June 2021 but also says that the vacancy announcement will be used as a register to fill vacancies through 9/30/2021. How would that process work? I received the Category A Veteran rating on April 23rd and haven't received anything else. It definitely doesn't seem as though I'd make a June start date. Thanks for any info that you provide!

Was this an internal (as in need already have status), or Open Announcement (as in anyone could apply)?
The former...TP Vet is irrelevant as Vet preference has no sway on internal hires.
As it stands, it looks like you were deemed qualified at the highest level and added to the register they will use for all openings over the next 6 months.
You will get a separate update saying if you were referred (might get one if you weren't). |
You should have voted Cthulu...the greatest of all Evils

It was for an external open announcement. I'm assuming that with there being 40 external openings and the Category A vet rating that it would make for pretty good odds of at least getting a referral. I'm wondering how many people get referred for a GS 14 opening like this one with a Category A Vet rating? I've been a GS 13 IT Specialist for seven years and hope that I can make the cut. My chances would of course be much higher if there are only a small number of referrals for such a high number of open positions. Thoughts?

There was just another job opening posted with 35 additional job openings that are identical. There were fewer locations available this time though so I applied for a different one because the previous location that I got the rating for wasn't available. I have yet to hear anything else so it sure is taking a long time to find out if I get referred or not because the last email I received was on April 23. I'd prefer the last location I applied for but wanted to increase my chances more.

I was referred two weeks ago for the position that I received the Cat A TP Vet external rating for. The email that I received says that the application was processed in accordance with the Merit Promotion Program procedures. I'm hoping that I hear further news soon!

I submitted an application for a different position in the IRS, Also Cat A Vet and was referred to the hiring manager fairly quickly. Don't know if that is a good or bad sign.

isaken,
I'm hoping that we both have a good shot at getting selected. I've been referred for almost a month now and haven't heard anything. I'm hoping that the cert hasn't expired yet or else I wasn't selected. I'm wondering how long the referral cert is valid for? I've guessing anywhere from 30 to 90 days. The IRS doesn't have a large percentage of veterans. I've heard that they are around 10 percent of their employees. What kind of position did you get referred to? How many openings were there? I don't think that getting referred quickly is a factor, but the selecting officials pick the Category A veterans after the internals have been selected. Hopefully there are remaining openings left after the internals are selected for us to have a good chance at getting selected. Good luck and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for us!

I was considered best qualified, what was your rating? I was referred less than 2 weeks after the closing date. Edited by user Monday, July 12, 2021 9:14:23 AM(UTC)

My rating was only Category A TP Vet that I received around a couple weeks after applying. The job closed around the first week of April. I never received any best qualified email, but it shows that I've been referred in CareerConnector. I also received an email stating that my application was processed using merit promotion procedures. I applied as an external candidate.

I've also this pass week gotten another Cat A TP referral for a different position at the same POD. That announcement had 15 openings across around 15 different PODs. I'm hoping that increased my odds enough to at least get an interview or even a selection. Good luck!

Announcement: 21AUS-ITX0372-2210-14 Position: Information Technology Specialist *6 Month Register* Series: 2210 Grade: 14
Rating: Category A Veterans Preference: TP VET Yes remember there may be an internal with similar qualifications and they would have to be considered first. But no it doesn't mean you won't be "considered" for the position.

So far I'm referred to the selecting officials for 55 open IT positions as an external TP vet. As far as internals go, I did notice that there was a separate job announcement for the second posting that I'm referred for. It was solely for internal candidates and had the 15 jobs announced. I'm still waiting on another announcement that I applied for that had 35 positions announced on it. The IRS selects the internals first which would explain why their veteran percentage is lower than what you would typically see.

If it’s external and you’re otherwise qualified you’ll likely at the least get an interview.

It's been around a month and a half since referral on the announcement so I'm wondering if the selections would have been made yet on the six month announcement? For the second announcement, it's only been a couple weeks since referral. The IRS is conducting mass hiring and also I'm sure that there are COVID related delays being experienced by their HR department. I'm highly qualified for both positions, but would prefer selection for the one that I was referred to a couple weeks ago. There wasn't as many openings posted for that one though. Am I out of the running for the first position yet? How long does it typically take to be notified of the outcome?

I feel you, I have also been waiting almost 2 months after being referred to a different position. When I contacted the HR department, they told me to wait 4 more weeks.

isaken, That's quite a long time to wait! The good news is that it appears to be just a serious delay in hiring actions and we are probably both still under consideration for the jobs that we are referred to! I'll let you know if I ever hear back on these. There are quite a lot of job openings that I'm referred to as a veteran so I'm hoping to get selected.

I will post updates at least weekly to let you know if there is any change in my referral process.
