Accepted a T.O. from DFAS. Finished all the onboarding and got an email stating

"The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) Personnel Security Office has received the documentation you provided and has initiated the background investigation required for Federal employment based upon your acceptance of a tentative job offer. No further action is required by you at this time.

Your background investigation must be completed and favorably adjudicated before we can extend a firm job offer. This can be a lengthy process, normally taking six months to one year or more. Please note that you may be contacted by an investigator or investigator under contract from the National Background Investigation Bureau (NBIB) (https://nbib.opm.gov/) to conduct an interview as part of your background investigation. You may verify the identity of an investigator by calling NBIB at 1-888-795-5673 or email: RMFSIMSST@opm.gov."

I know the background will be fine but does this mean that I won't even know for at least 6 months?

Thanks in advance.

This means that every case is different. Some cases are quick and easy, a few are really slow and not easy, most are somewhere in the middle.

The times posted for DCSA timelines are the times for the average of the fastest 90 percent of cases for that clearance level. Some take a loooong time - not because the process is slow or jammed but because the Subject has complexities in their case.
*DISCLAIMER*Correctly filling out your security forms will not guarantee you a clearance in 3 months BUT be sloppy and your case will be in the field a heck of a lot longer, guaranteed.

Thanks for the reply. The investigator contacted me and there were a few errors that they fixed so should all work out just take a little longer is all.
