Also, curious if anyone knows how much this occurs in the federal versus private sector? I saw this article about how federal agencies aren't doing enough. I'm curious if there's a different perspective from inside the federal system. https://publicintegrity....rise-in-anti-asian-hate/ The article is referring to federal agencies not dealing with the issue in the general public. This is different than it happening in the work center, especially in a federal work center. The issue for the first problem, is not all crimes are federal jurisdiction. Local law enforcement is the first point of contact who should be addressing these assaults, etc. The DoJ should put out guidance and require reporting of hate crimes, but the issue is some state and local agencies do not report their numbers or refuse to label anything a hate crime, therefor skewing the numbers overall. Therefore, hard to see exactly where the Federal Government can do things. If you are experiencing discrimination in the workplace, you need to contact your EEO office and initiate a complaint. Not all claims are illegal discrimination (I've seen plenty of claims of harassment which were simply a supervisor asking the employee to do their job or for updates on projects which is not harassment, even if the boss is a jerk). Yes, the process can be lengthy (the informal process is 30-90 days, formal complaint investigation is 180-300 days, then if you request a hearing that can take a couple of years to see the AJ), and the end of the day, you (if you prove discrimination occurred) can be made whole. |
