I previously was at a Wage Grade Job in which I was a WG8, I moved to the firefighter side of the house which came with a significant pay increase to GS5 step10 to meet my pay from the WG position. I am being promoted to GS6 soon, from speaking with others in the agency that were in a similar position as myself they have informed me that I wont lose my step 10 when I am promoted. Speaking to others in management have told me that I will not be keeping my step 10. Obviously in a normal promotion path I would be promoted with a 2 step pay increase. I understand that the firefighting GS pay scale is different from others so this isn't necessarily a quick answer. Could someone direct me where I can find supporting information that would be consistent with my previous question of keeping my steps as I am promoted to the next GS pay scale?
