The grades and promotion potential are the same. I'm now struggling to choose one between the two. The regional office offer has the supervisory status, whereas the HQ position is a regular statistician. This is my very first post here, and I appreciate your input! I'd like to know that: 1. How's the work culture/routine like in the regional offices vs. Suitland HQ? 2. As a quiet technical person, which one is better for career advancement? 3. In general, which place (suburbs of Chicago vs. DC/MD) is better to live in? So here're the job information & application timelines. 1. The HQ is by a metro station so could be an easy commute (depending on where you coming from). Plenty of places outside the beltway to live that aren't outrageously expensive and if you want suburbs or country living, both easy to do. That's all I have.

Or are you happy to be supervised? Chicago has great art, museums, libraries. Suburbs are terrific (Winnetka) and public transportation is pretty good too. City has big shoulders, great sports teams. Bad winters. Polish food! I really like Chicago. My kind of town.

The building is being renovated and most people won't be back in the building until later this year or next spring. Almost everybody is teleworking. The range of projects and opportunity for advancement are huge. At HQ, you can move around within the agency, you're exposed to HQ-level work, many other federal agencies are in the area if you aren't satisfied. You could start at the RO and parlay it into a role at HQ. I've seen that happen a few times. It is usually best to start at the highest grade possible, so, if the RO one is a 13 and the HQ is a 12, RO could be best.
