If you resign from the IRS and want to come back, is there a certain amount of time you have to wait before reapplying for positions?

I am thinking about resigning myself. The commute is horrible and the amount of stuff you have to know is wild. I’ve been w/ the IRS for 1 year already, it is very stressful.

Maybe you should hang in there a little longer. I definitely think there’s a learning curve when you come to the IRS from the private sector, or straight out of college. I’m in my second year as an AO and I feel like I’m just getting the hang of the job. I didn’t know a lot of the jargon initially; I didn’t understand some of the programs such as IDRS, and RGS initially until year 2.

We came so close to buying a home that would of been well beyond the commuting range like 1500 miles. We know now where we are going to make our next move to. We are going to buy another home next year. My husband will go ahead and I'll stay behind to get a another year or two in with the service. I'll find another job when we get settled. Make your plan and go for it.

Is there any detriment to leaving while still in the probationary period? It is in my best interest in the short term to return to my previous employer for a few years, but my spouse thinks if I leave while still on probation I will not be able to get another federal job.
