The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. [Their] duties are wide-ranging, but [their] goal is clear: keeping America safe. (source: www.dhs.gov)

Hello, everyone! I received a tentative offer to intern with DHS (ICE) and am still awaiting my background check to be completed. In a couple of days it will be exactly one month since I submitted all of my information and got my fingerprints done. I was wondering if background investigations always take this long? If not, should I send an email just to check in? I don’t want to come off as impatient, but since I start school again in August, I want to work with DHS for as long as possible and it is almost June already—which does not leave me much time. To sum it up, I am just curious if background investigations for internships normally take this long?

Thank you!
